End of an Era |
|
Or perhaps, more accurately, an era on hold
I've decided to cancel my EQ2 accounts. I've been playing less & less over the last couple months & I can't justify $120 worth of expansions ($39.99 per) for my three accounts. I can't decide on any one of the three (though one is technically my husband's) to keep & if I play, I have to be advancing (if you're doing something, do it right ), so just not buying the expac is out, too. So after much thought I've decided to cancel them for now. I may end up going back one day, I may not. Heck, it was interfering with my writing schedule anyway...
For the time being, I'll be messing around with my husband on DDO (the basic, free stuff) & maybe I'll look in on that "original EQ" server I know exists now. Maybe.
Just thought I'd give ya the heads up

"Original EQ " server?? The only thing I've found that's close to the original EQ is Shards of Dayala (have to reload onto my new hard drive..hehe)

It's an emulator, technically, but very well done & fairly well populated from what I hear. It's also free
Haven't signed up (not decided if I will yet) but I'm currently messing around in DDO & having fun, too.

I have cancelled my subscription to EQ2 (although it won't run out until April 1). I will miss the GH specifically - with all the hard work put into it by Kally and me. And I will also miss my beautiful house. I loved that house, but you can only sit and gaze at things for so long.
EQ2 is a fun game, but along with playing EQ on occasion with hubby, I have recently started playing an old favorite, A Tale in the Desert. It is a new shard (Bastet), running simultaneously with the old one (Tale 4). It is quite exciting to be on the ground floor of a new pioneering effort -this one in ancient Egypt. I have been under such stress lately that anything that provides me with easy, calming, repetitive-but-fun tasks is what the doctor ordered.

Aww... Although, I do understand where you're coming from Kally. I keep thinking about you guys (we both do).
We just found ourselves too busy and stuff to play and at the time we got on when Kayleigh was asleep, everyone was heading off to bed. I didn't find it too solo-friendly either at times.
I do miss my house, and the aquarium that I scratch built, and all the other wonderful things that a level 80 carpenter could do. The game was fun, but I kept finding myself drawn to other things like Sims 2 and Sims 3; Mass Effect 2 (well, that's just recent and all - fun FPS).
I'm actually looking forward to "The Old Republic" when it comes out.
To be honest, a couple of "real life" friends (a couple) asked us to play Warcraft with them. We hadn't been seeing them much at all so we figured that if we played at least we could stay in contact with them that way. Let me tell you, that did NOT turn out well. She turns out to be a manipulative backstabbing bitch who played people against people in there and ultimately it all blew up and we are no longer friends because she was lying through her teeth to us. We do keep in contact with the other people who got caught up in the "web of lies" so now we have acquaintances in Florida... and they have FIVE KIDS!
I tried a couple of free ones: Grand Fantasia, Shaiya but they're... well... totally free. I considered EvE because I wouldn't mind a MMORPG Sci-Fi game.
I'm going to have to check out DDO now.

DDO is fun...it's actually a game you can play for a short time & come back to & you can solo or group, the instances/quests have different hardness levels. My bard (yeah, yeah) Gedwin is up to level 4 now. My cleric is 3...levels take a while, lol. Ghallanda server if anyone's interested...but let me know if you're playing, we're not on all the time
I also finally got that project 1999 working & god help me...original EQ is fun...though admittedly, a lot of that is nostalgic value, too.

Although the nostalgia of EQ might be nice, I don't think I could go back to it.
"Hey Kally, want to help me get my corpse from fear or hate?"
Oh yeah, Cait would log in and post to say Hi but she's got a 6 week old sleeping on her lap so she can't type.
I'm wondering what game I would like to play. I know I don't have all the time in the world but:
DDO (although I'm looking at it right now and the graphics are "meh")
EvE - I want a sci fi game
I would feel weird going back to EQ, but the project1999 or Shards might be interesting.
LotR
Just wait for The Old Republic (although that's about a year to come)

Yeah, the DDO graphics are...ok...but the price is right! LOL (No, I'm not going to pay to play anything again. Not for a long time...)

EVE is a great game, with awesome outside graphics. However, you don't work with a personal avatar that moves in-game like EQ or WoW (although you can build a complex one that represents you as sort of a figurehead). Your moving playing piece is your spaceship, and that's where you can get really creative as you level. You are able to get more and more powerful spaceships that can travel faster, have better guns, and so on. You can solo in EVE, but it's much easier to find a Corporation (guild) that really helps in the tough spots and has offices around the galaxy.
Did I mention the graphics? Absolutely stunning of the starfields and different regions. I would play for that feature alone. You get to battle pirates mostly; I don't remember the other mobs. You get to mine and market and do tasks. There are four main races to choose your background from and a lot of history behind them (although you don't need this history to play). It's a fun game.

I've got the 14 day trial of it and so far it seems slow.
The scenery is beautiful, for space. It may be my resolution is too high, but the dark text on black background is difficult to read. It's also too small. At the moment I'm finding myself waiting and waiting as I fly to points in space. I guess I'm looking for something a little faster paced. Maybe more than that too.

One thing about EVE you all should know about....
Be prepared to be ganked. A LOT. After you leave the newbie area, pvp is free for all, and happens all the time. So unless you are prepared to lose your ship and items a lot, it might not be the game for you.

Oh, I didn't know that. I never moved out of the newbie zone

Yeah, I heard about that... get into any 0.0 areas and you're just asking for it. Not to worry, I wouldn't mind getting involved in PvP at some times. Wondering about a free game with good PvP in it too.

Okay, so I've been sucked in to EVE for a while now. I'm actually enjoying it for now. It's a little slower than other games; I guess primarily because the skill system is a fixed-rate system (set up a training queue and wait real time for it to tick) rather than "collect materials and grind." I like that right now because I only play for an hour or two a night.
Anyways, off to work (should have left 15 minutes ago).
