God I'm old. |
|
Sitting here watching some movie with Gabby, when someone on screen says "It's on like Donkey Kong."
Gabby looks over at me and says "What's Donkey Kong?" It made me realize just how old I am, and how knowledge I take for granted is stuff that is 20+ years older than she is, and that she won't be exposed to it like I was.

Heh, I am older than Sesame Street, Chris....talk about feeling old
There is a very popular show with pre-schoolers called Yo, Gabba Gabba! that involves the main character starting each show with a boom box on his shoulder. He opens the boom box to reveal the magical toys that come to life. But, how many toddlers today have even SEEN a boom box? Same thing with a record, or a phone with a cord.
And, Donkey Kong was one of my favorite arcade games, along with Frogger, Pac-Man, too many to mention.

"IT'S ON LIKE DONKEY KONG!" I loved Donkey Kong...
You want to feel old? I was on this one forum a little while back & these 20-somethings were reminiscing about Power Rangers & Pokemon...I wanted to cry (But maybe I'd make some of you cry when I get nostalgic about The Muppet Show & Knight Rider...)
(And we have phones with cords at work...but then, Arizona is pretty broke right now, lol)

Heh, that's nothing Kally. A small town down the road from me still has a working crank phone outside one of the stores. Next time I'm down there I'll get a picture.
(And now I want to watch Knight Rider again. Thanks a lot! )
Raienya, I'd totally forgotten about boom boxes. I don't think I've seen one in 14 years or so.

I was watching a montage of videos from the 80's on youtube the other day, and some of the comments made me realize how old I am.
"Oh man, the 80's had such great music!"
"Yeah, wish I had been alive to hear it!"
........>.<

Want to cry more? There are people born in 1989 who are now old enough to drink. And some born in 1992 (the year my husband graduated high school, I was a sophomore ) who are old enough to vote & buy cigarettes.
You're welcome.

Don't remind me! One of my sisters was born in 1989. (One in 1983, one in 1989, a brother in 1990, and my youngest sister in 2000.)

LOL, we're not so bad...I work with a lady who graduated high school the year I was born, for instance. I call her "work mom."

I came to the revelation the other day (I'm a teacher BTW)...
The students who are graduating this year were not born when I graduated.

As a fellow teacher Lore, I also came to a revelation this year...I am now teaching the children of students I had years ago. BTW, I teach 8th graders. I also have several coworkers who were in my science class way back when!

Yep, I'm at the "co-workers were my students stage" too. I haven't taught with any of them yet, but I did find out that one of my top students from five years ago is the student-teacher for one of my friends in another school. Hehe.
